Tok Mat denies trying to woo Felda settlers with housing project in GE14

SEREMBAN: Former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Mohamad Hasan today refuted claims that he had launched a housing project meant for second generation Felda settlers a few days before the May 9 polls in order to woo voters.
Mohamad, who is looking to retain his Rantau state seat in Saturday’s by-election, said the project site was approved during his tenure as menteri besar.
However, he claimed the developer had decided not to continue with the project.
“The project was not meant to win votes. The land was already allocated.
But if I am appointed the menteri besar once more, I will see to it that the project is completed,” Mohamad, better known as Tok Mat, told a press conference.
Mohamad also said the housing project could not be implemented following Barisan Nasional’s defeat in the 14th general election.
Yesterday, Urban Wellbeing, Housing, Local Government and New Villages Committee chairman Teo Kok Seong accused Mohamad of attempting to garner support from Felda settlers by promising to build 242 single-storey terrace homes for them.
Teo said checks with the relevant officers found that no land was provided for such homes in Jimah, while no houses were constructed in Bukit Sendayan despite Mohamad’s earlier statement that the project would be completed by the middle of this year.
He said this proved that the previous administration had used state government machinery in order to win the polls. - FMT
