A war over Jho Low would end in defeat, says Dr M

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad today appeared to rule out any clandestine operations to bring fugitive financier Low Taek Jho back to the country, following calls by blogger A Kadir Jasin for the police to deploy “Mossad-like” tactics since the authorities are aware of his location.
Mahathir, who was speaking to reporters after receiving an honorary degree in creative arts from the National Academy of Arts Culture and Heritage, was asked if the government would resort to emulating the methods used by Israel’s intelligence agency to abduct a former Nazi fugitive from Argentina to face trial in the country.
“We can go to war, but we will lose the war and lose Low,” he said.
“We are conscious that we are not a very strong nation. Sometimes people are nice to use, sometimes they are not. But we have to accept.”
He added that he is unsure whether Low, better known as Jho Low, is in an Eastern or Western country, saying top cop Abdul Hamid Bador has not told him where the businessman was discovered.
In a Financial Times interview yesterday, Mahathir said the government did not know Low’s location. However, Hamid said earlier that Low was on an unnamed island.
“I don’t know, the IGP said he is not in Cyprus, as far as I know, but I don’t speak the same language as the IGP,” Mahathir said.
“The IGP is the IGP. If you give me shoulder medals, I will speak like the IGP.
Reiterating that Hamid has not told him where Low is, he added: “It’s not every time he knows where Low is supposed to be.”
Mahathir also said the government was working hard to bring Low back to Malaysia, although information was difficult to obtain.
“I’m told he may carry several passports. I’m also told he may have undergone alterations to his face.
“All these things are rumours – I have no proof – but it could happen, and that makes it difficult for us.”

  1. Fighter cock this PM provokes countries here and there. Now going after Jho Low fine but what about Zakir Naik who is also a money launderer/hate preacher wanted by the Indian Government? Are you going to send him home?. Something is amiss and his intellect is now bolted, he cannot see the similarities.
