BATU PAHAT: Ayer Hitam MP Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong questions Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng's motives in creating complications in assisting students of Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC).
The MCA president said if Lim was still interested in fulfilling his promises, the DAP secretary-general could give RM1,000 in assistance to each TAR UC student.
"Instead of doing this, why can't you stick to your words and give RM1,000 per student?
"It will be very direct. You don't (have to) give the money to the university, but we appeal to you, give the money to the students. You help the students, don't have to play all these politics," he said.
He also questioned why the funds would be channelled to the Tarcian Alumni Association (TAA), as opposed to the other registered alumni association, the Federation of TAR Student Alumni.
It was earlier reported that the government has approved an allocation of at least RM30mil annually to a trust fund for TAR UC and its students, provided that MCA relinquishes control of the university college.
Lim said the RM30mil, which will be provided annually and disbursed by this year, will be allocated to a trust fund managed by the TAA.- Star
