Malaysian contingent ‘praying’ typhoon doesn’t lash Philippines

PETALING JAYA: Chef-de-mission Megat Zulkarnain Omardin admits the national contingent is aware typhoon Kammuri hitting the Philippines during SEA Games remains a possibility.
Megat said organisers PHISGOC’s contingency plan is to move outdoor sports to a safer venue, reported Bernama.
“They told us they expected the typhoon by year end,” he told Malaysian media in Manila today.
“PHISGOC have a Plan B mapped out if the weather got out of control.“No one can control the weather. They (meteorologists) have seen early signs but we pray the typhoon does not happen.”
Government weather-monitoring agency Pagasa had warned the typhoon was expected to hit the south island of Luzon, which includes SEA Games-hosting cities Manila, Clark and Subic.
According to several local portals, the typhoon is expected to enter the country on Saturday evening but the worst effects are expected on Tuesday and Wednesday.
While Phil Star reported Kammuri was headed toward Luzon carrying winds at 120-150kph with heavy rains, Pagasa has been unable to predict its exact route as it is still some way off Philippines.
The biennial regional games officially starts with the opening ceremony on Saturday at the world’s largest indoor arena, Philippine Arena, in Bulacan. - FMT
