PKR Youth removes permanent chair, deputy amid tussle over Azmin's invitation

PKR Youth has stripped its permanent chairperson Mizan Adli Mohd Noor and deputy permanent chairperson Mohd Ramly Ahmad of their positions.
This came amid a tussle between PKR president Anwar Ibrahim's faction, which does not want party deputy president Azmin Ali to officiate the PKR Youth congress and Azmin's faction, which is refusing to budge.
While the permanent chairperson and deputy permanent chairperson do not have major roles in the party's daily operations, they are critical figures during a congress as they will be chair the gathering.

Malaysiakini sighted the letter informing Mizan (above, left) and Ramly of the stripping based on the grounds that the election to their positions last year was doubtful.
The letters were issued by PKR Youth secretary Ahmad Syukri Che Ab Razab, who is also the PKR Youth congress director.
In the letters, Syukri said the permanent chairperson and deputy permanent chairperson received 400 and 397 votes respectively in the last party election, even though there were only 270 delegates voting.

The letters also raised their age qualification as PKR Youth members.
As such, it said the party wing has decided to conduct a new election for the position of permanent chairperson and deputy permanent chairperson.
He added that the decision has also been conveyed to the PKR central leadership council which also accepted the move.
When contacted, Syukri confirmed with Malaysiakini that he had issued the letters. The letters were dated yesterday.
In an immediate response, Mizan and Ramly decried the decision.
They said the age of the permanent chairperson and deputy permanent chairperson is not limited to 35 years and below.
They added that the election was conducted in a disorderly manner by the election committee.
"We want a detailed explanation of why we were sacked without solid grounds," Mizan and Ramly said in a joint statement. - Mkini
