‘I was head of govt’ then: Najib ‘shocked’ by recordings, looking into legal action

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak has expressed shock over the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) airing of nine audio recordings allegedly showing attempts at cover-ups and subversion of justice by high-ranking officials, including himself.
“I am shocked by this revelation, ” he said when met by the press outside of the High Court here on Wednesday (Jan 8).
“I will look into what could be done legally. During that time, I was the head of government, ” he added.
Najib, who was on the stand earlier at the SRC International trial, said he would study the content of the recordings and had referred the matter to his lawyer.
The former prime minister, however, did not confirm nor deny whether the conversations took place and said that he would have to look into the contents of the audio recordings.
“I haven’t checked, ” he said.
He also said he would be looking into possible legal action as the audio recordings appeared to be from taps on his phone.
