Ahmad Faizal to continue as Perak MB

Malaysiakini

Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah has consented that Ahmad Faizal Azumu to continue as the state menteri besar.
The ruler was convinced that the former menteri besar supported by the part of the state assemblypersons to helm the state, according to the ruler's private secretary Abd Rahim bin Mohamad Nor.
"As guided by the Article 16(2) of the Perak Constitution, the ruler, in his views, Ahmad Faizal enjoys the confidence of part of the members of the state assembly to be appointed as the 13th menteri besar," he said in a statement today.
Ahmad Faizal will be swearing-in at the Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar after Friday prayers at 3pm.
Ahmad Faizal had resigned on March 10 after the fall of Pakatan Harapan government in Perak.
It was reported that Perak Perikatan Nasional had submitted the names of three candidates to Sultan Nazrin (below).
Beside Ahmad Faizal, two other candidates were the state Umno chairperson Saarani Mohamad and PAS chief Razman Zakaria.
Perak has a total of 59 assembly seats. Initially, Harapan controlled 30 seats comprising DAP with 18 seats, Amanah (six), PKR (four) and Bersatu (two).
Meanwhile, Umno has 25 seats, PAS has three and one is held by an independent assemblyperson.
In the current alignment after the defections, PN now controls 35 seats which include Umno's 25, PAS (three), Bersatu (four) and three independent seats (held by former DAP and Amanah members).
Only 24 state seats remain with Harapan.  - Mkini
