Bandar Kuching MP Kelvin Yii tests positive for Covid-19

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii has tested positive for Covid-19 and is currently under quarantine at Sarawak General Hospital.
In a statement, Yii (above) said that both he and Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen had tested for the virus but that Chong's test proved to be negative.
"The Health Department last night, released the results of the Covid-19 test for both myself and Chong which showed that Chong has tested negative for the virus, but I have tested positive for Covid-19."
"I was then admitted late last night and currently am being quarantined at Sarawak General Hospital for further monitoring based on the standard procedures set by the Health Ministry," he said.
Yii who is a medical doctor said he is still asymptomatic and in stable condition.
"The test here in the ward also showed that I have no fever and all vital signs are normal," he added.
Yii said he had been in contact with Sarikei MP Wong Ling Biu on March 2.
The latter was the first MP to test positive for the virus.
"The Health Department is also tracing other possible contacts and sources of infection aside from my contact with Wong," Yii said.
He added that the department has given its assurance that all necessary precautions will be taken to identify and to contact those in close proximity with him for further investigations or tests if needed.
"We also would like to reassure members of the public that came into contact with me to not panic but to continue to take the necessary precautions to avoid the spread of the virus."
Yii said he was informed that as he has been asymptomatic for the past two weeks, the risk of him being highly infectious is much lower.
"I would like to apologise for all the inconvenience caused, but I strongly believe we will get through this together," he added.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had announced a movement control order starting tomorrow until March 31.
The limit on public movement in a bid to curb the Covid-19 outbreak includes the closing of schools and private premises.
However, essential services, supermarkets, wet markets, grocery shops and convenience stores will remain open and accessible.
According to the Health Ministry, the number of Covid-19 cases is now 553 since the beginning of the outbreak, with 190 cases reported on Sunday and another 125 yesterday. - Mkini
