CORONAVIRUS | MIC has postponed its branch meetings nationwide amidst growing concerns over the Covid-19 outbreak.
Secretary-general Asojan Muniyandy (above) said the party’s leadership decided to postpone its branch meetings as a precautionary measure to contain the virus.
Asojan also cited the Registrar of Societies (ROS) which had imposed a temporary ban on all annual general assemblies and related gatherings by organisations registered under it in a bid to curb the spread of Covid-19.
“MIC has decided to postpone all branch meetings nationwide to a date that will be announced later.
“All MIC programmes involving a large number of people are not encouraged to be conducted. This is a precautionary measure due to the spread of Covid-19,” he said in a press statement yesterday.
Yesterday, the ROS declared that all organisations were prohibited from holding programmes, activities, conferences, gatherings and annual general assemblies until June 30 in line with the government's directive.
It added that if the Covid-19 situation does not subside by June 30, the organisations must make an application to the ROS to further delay their annual general meetings.
Meanwhile, Asojan reminded the public to not take the movement control order, announced by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin last night, lightly.
“Things will become worse if we don’t take the order seriously. People should only go out if it is really necessary,” he said.
The government has imposed the movement control order that will limit public movement for two weeks from March 18 until March 31, in a bid to slow down the spread of Covid-19. - Mkini
