Fifteen healthcare workers have been infected by the Covid-19 virus, with one of them in the intensive care unit (ICU), revealed Health director-general Noor Hisham Abdullah this afternoon.
"As of today, 12 MOH (Ministry of Health) healthcare workers and three from the private healthcare sector have been infected by the Covid-19 virus.
"One of the 12 MOH staff is currently in ICU on ventilatory support.
"This virus knows no boundaries, regardless of your race, religion or wealth status, even more so if you are a healthcare worker at the frontline of this war," he wrote on his personal Facebook page.
In light of this, Noor Hisham reiterated his appeal for people to remain in their homes to stop the spread of the virus.
"Please help us to help you. Stay at home," he said.
In an earlier post, Noor Hisham (photo) urged the public not to put healthcare workers at risk by hiding their history and close contact information when seeking medical attention.
He said MOH had encountered several cases where patients had concealed information regarding their contact with Covid-19 patients or their symptoms.
"We had a few incidences this week where patients concealed their contacts and/or symptoms. Travel history and close contact information, for example, those linked to the tabligh gathering in the Seri Petaling Mosque were also not being revealed.
"Only after clinical procedures and treatment were completed that such critical information was disclosed.
"By then, the safety of our healthcare workers and facilities had been jeopardised. It is a crime not to reveal or hide information.
"I appeal to the public and patients to please be truthful and not to hide information and risk our lives and facilities," he added.
As of yesterday, Malaysia recorded a total of 900 Covid-19 cases, the majority of which was linked to the mosque gathering in Kuala Lumpur which took place from Feb 27 to March 1.
