Can wet markets operate or not? Ipoh is confused

IPOH: There is a lot of confusion among the people in the city as to whether the public wet markets here will be allowed to operate or would have to close.
While the Ipoh City Council has issued a statement saying that the markets would remain open, Ipoh Timur MP Wong Kah Woh, on his Facebook, stated otherwise.
According to the city council, all public markets can remain open, with only the farmers' and night markets barred from operating in accordance with the controlled movement order.
Wong, on Friday (March 20), said he had personally contacted Ipoh mayor Datuk Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahman to seek clarification on the matter.
“I called him last night and was told all public wet markets would be closed to prevent people from gathering.
“I was only being helpful in conveying the message to the masses, in line with the order, ” he said.
“I even had some city councillors check with the city council enforcement unit and was told the same thing.
“And this morning (Friday), I was informed that the public markets can remain open and that’s when the confusion set in, ” he added.
A city council spokesman also confirmed that the latest statement issued allowed the public markets to be open as usual. - Star
