CORONAVIRUS | China has pledged to supply medical equipment necessary to face the Covid-19 outbreak, according to Foreign Minister Hishammuddin Hussein.
He said the pledge was made by Chinese ambassador Bai Tian during a meeting today (photo).
Included in the list are ventilators, face masks, PCT-based bacteria test kits and sanitisers.
"I will be writing formally to my counterpart Wang Yi, China's foreign minister, on this request so that Malaysians will be prioritised and protected in the war against Covid-19.
"This is an opportunity to showcase the strong ties forged between Malaysia and China, just as the ambassador said in the meeting, Bukit sama didaki, lurah sama dituruni (we will overcome obstacles together)," wrote Hishammuddin on his Facebook page today.
China has been the epicentre of the Covid-19 outbreak and has recorded the highest number of cases and deaths.
However, the country has managed to stem the spread of the virus and is now assisting other countries, particularly Italy.
The European nation has been the worst-hit country outside of China with 24,747 cases and 1,809 deaths so far.
At the time of writing, Malaysia has 428 confirmed cases and no deaths.
However, health authorities are bracing for further spread of the virus and are preparing to enter the mitigation phase of the outbreak. - Mkini
