CORONAVIRUS | Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Nga Kor Ming has pledged to contribute one month of his salary to the national fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Teluk Intan MP made the promise in relation to his salary as a parliamentarian.
In a statement released today, Nga (above) said he would ensure on the donation of 5,000 face masks to government departments including Teluk Intan Hospital staff, security personnel and underprivileged voters, with the items expected to arrive next week.
He said all parties must give full support and complete cooperation to the Health Ministry’s efforts to tackle the public health crisis which is becoming more serious.
“Malaysia is now the worst country in Southeast Asia hit by Covid-19, with over 1,500 patients and 21 dead as a result of the virus,” Nga said.
He expressed the highest appreciation and thanks to the efforts of the entire body of medical and security personnel at the frontline to treat patients and safeguard security in the country.
Nga, who is also Perak DAP chief, urged the 70-member cabinet to contribute their salary to the Covid-19 fund to support the national effort to tackle the Covid-19 virus which has taken 22,000 lives and infected 471,478 people worldwide so far.
Meanwhile, later today in a media statement, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said he and his cabinet will contribute two months of their salary each to the fund to help combat the deadly Covid-19 virus. - Mkini
