Veteran newsman Firdaus Abdullah has been appointed managing editor of Media Prima Television Networks.
According to sources, Firdaus began work yesterday, replacing Manja Ismail who is being transferred to a Media Prima Bhd subsidiary Primeworks Studio.
"There is nothing political in the appointment which was decided several weeks ago as part of the ongoing restructuring of Media Prima," said a source,
Firdaus is known to be a long-time confidante of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and is known among political circles for his "Apanama" blog.
Firdaus had previously served as an editor at the New Straits Times.
The Media Prima stable of terrestrial television channels are TV3, TV9, 8tv and ntv7.
Media Prima Bhd, the biggest media-focussed conglomerate in Malaysia, has been undergoing a restructuring exercise since last November.
The company's revenue has been on a steady downtrend over the past five years. - Mkini
