KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah chief minister Musa Aman has announced the distribution of essential items worth RM1 million by Sabah Umno to help the people in the state in the battle against the Covid-19 virus.
Musa said the party would distribute food, household items, face masks and sanitisers to everyone “regardless of race, religion and political affiliation”.
“We should put aside politics and come together to lend a helping hand to those who desperately need it,” he said.
“While RM1 million may seem small to some, it is my hope that the assistance will lessen the burden for those struggling and in desperate need for staples such as rice, cooking oil and gas.”
He added that Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin would oversee the distribution of the supplies.
The virus has so far infected 1,624 people nationwide, and resulted in 15 deaths.
Sabah has the third highest number of infections in the country.
Millions of Malaysians have been ordered to stay indoors after Putrajaya announced the movement control order (MCO) last week.
Musa urged the people to abide by the MCO despite its impact on their income.
“Managing Covid-19 effectively is a matter of life and death. We must not only adhere to the MCO but we should work together to ensure its success in an effort to flatten the infection curve,” he added.
When contacted, Bung told FMT that the masks would be sourced from a company in Kuala Lumpur.
“I will have a meeting tomorrow morning to discuss the number of essentials needed and when we can distribute them,” said the Kinabatangan MP.
He said Sabah Umno had already started giving out essential items to frontliners such as hospital staff, policemen and armed forces personnel. - FMT
Bung have you come out from your swimming pool? If not you can invite Musa to give a PC together from the pool.
