Four Selangor Bersatu reps back Harapan after meeting Dr M

Four Selangor Bersatu assemblypersons have declared their support for the Pakatan Harapan state government after meeting with Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

They are Kuang assemblyperson Sallehuddin Amiruddin, Mohd Shaid Rosli (Jeram) and Harumaini Omar (Batang Kali).

Dengkil representative Adhif Syan Abdullah, also reportedly with them, but was not present at the press conference where their stance was announced.

The group said they were unsure where Selangor Bersatu chief Abdul Rashid Asari (Selat Klang) stood, as he was away on holiday and could not be contacted.

Sallehuddin said during the meeting Mahathir had asked him, Shaid, Harumaini, and Adhif to make their own decision on where they stand.

"So we have decided that all four of us in Selangor from Bersatu would support the Harapan state government," he said

Bersatu is currently split between those loyal to Mahathir, and party president Muhyiddin Yassin.

Earlier today, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari announced that Bersatu leaders would be removed from the state government, and their allocations freezed.

Of the Bersatu assemblypersons, only Rashid is a state exco member.

"We have no positions, so nothing has changed, we are just assemblypersons," Shaid said.

"We feel that our responsibility is to the people who have given us their mandate, and we want to continue serving them," he added.

The group have not met Amirudin, but said they plan to meet the menteri besar tomorrow.

Shaid added that even if Bersatu remains outside Harapan, they will continue to support the state government.

Last week saw a major political realignment after Bersatu president Muhyiddin took the party out of Harapan to form a new government together with BN and PAS, with support from GPS.
