MCA promise to ensure TARUC allocation "back to normal"

Malaysiakini

MCA promised to fight for a yearly allocation to be included for the Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TARUC) in the federal budget.
The party's secretary-general, Chong Sin Woon (photo) said that the party will try to get things "back to normal" given that MCA is now in the ruling coalition.
"What we request is to get back to the normal. Normal means that the allocation is (directly channelled) to TARUC every year from the national budget."
"……(When Pakatan Harapan is in power, ) the allocation was reduced to RM 5.5 million (in Budget 2019), then further reduced to RM1 mil (in Budget 2020). "
"Meanwhile, a RM40 million allocation was given to TARCian Alumni Association (TAA), but not TARUC."
"So, the first thing is we want to do is to rectify this, to get it back to the national budget, and the allocation should be directly channelled to TARUC," said Chong.
When asked about the ideal amount of allocation, Chong answered that the limit of the allocation was set at RM60 million, but it depends on the financial ability of the government.
Chong was speaking to the media after officiating a fundraising campaign for TARUC by an E-hailing and taxi drivers' rights organisation.
Witnessed by various MCA leaders, the participating drivers pasted stickers on their cars. There is a QR code on the car sticker that leads to a donation website.
MCA Civil Society Movement Bureau head Ng Kian Nam, who is also the spokesperson of Campaign to Protect the Rights of E-hailing Drivers in Malaysia, thanked the drivers for giving something back to the society.
TARUC board of governors' chairperson Liow Tiong Lai, MCA's Tanjung Piai MP Wee Jeck Seng, and several MCA leaders were present the officiating ceremony.
The party president Wee Ka Siong, who was spotted in the building this morning, was initially scheduled to officiate the event. - Mkini
