PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang today explained that he didn't join the new cabinet so that he can act as an oversight on PAS ministers and deputy ministers in the government.
"We sent representatives to become ministers and deputy ministers, who will carry out their executive roles and prove their capability in governance, while the party oversees them.
"As a party president who is not appointed as a cabinet minister, it is more effective in keeping the government, ministers and deputy ministers in check," Hadi (above) said in a special address which was streamed live on Facebook tonight.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin appointed 31 new ministers and 38 deputy ministers.
Of those numbers, three PAS leaders were made ministers while five were made deputy ministers.
The government also departed from the convention where it does not have a deputy prime minister.
Furthermore, not all party chiefs were made ministers. They include Hadi and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (below).
Zahid, who is facing graft charges, had said that he plans to oversee preparations for the 15th general election. He also expressed confidence that he will clear his name in court.
Hadi, in his live address, also reiterated that the new Perikatan Nasional government was set up in line with the Federal Constitution and maintained that it was not a "back door" government. - Mkini
