Investigating source of outbreak is complicated, takes time: Health DG

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | The health authority has found that Covid-19 infections from the tabligh gathering cluster have spread up to five generations.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this was why investigation to detect the source of infections is complicated and takes some time.

"If we look at the tabligh gathering cluster alone, let's say it has 711 index cases, which then infected their family members. This is the first generation.

"The infection then was spread from family members to their neighbours, who in turn infected their friends.

"We found that there are already five generations of Covid-19 infection. It has spread five times," he told a press conference in Putrajaya today.

Noor Hisham was answering a question on the progress of Health Ministry's probe into the pattern of the Covid-19 spread, and if they have detected any other clusters.
As of today, MOH has so far screened a total of 13,762 participants of the tabligh gathering at Masjid Jamek Sri Petaling in Kuala Lumpur.
The gathering, which authorities estimated was attended by 16,000 people including 1,500 foreigners, is so far the biggest cluster of Covid-19 in Malaysia.
From the total 2,031 patients who have been tested positive as of noon today, 1,117 of them, or 55 percent, were made of those connected to the cluster.
The number of death toll linked to the virus is now 23. - Mkini
