More Pahang state assemblypersons have pledged to contribute 10 percent of their salary for three months to the state government's Covid-19 relief fund.
In a joint statement by the Pahang chapters of BN, PAS and DAP, the three parties said it is hoped that the fund would help those in need and inspire others to donate.
The move will involve 14 BN lawmakers, eight from PAS and seven from DAP. Two PKR assemblypersons will not participate in the exercise but said they will help the public in other ways.
Additionally, all 11 members of the Pahang cabinet yesterday pledged to donate 10 percent of their salaries (separate from their salaries as lawmakers) to the fund as well.
When contacted, Semambu assemblyperson Lee Chean Chung said his party, PKR, was not involved because they had already exhausted their salaries by donating food to hospitals over the past two days.
He said the opposition was doing its bit in Pahang despite any proper funding, other than a recent RM3,000 grant from the state government.
"We applaud the action taken by the other lawmakers in Pahang. We (in PKR) will help at the community level," he said, adding that the public could contribute to a fund started by his office at Maybank account no: 506164206440. - Mkini
