PETALING JAYA: Those who do not abide by the directives under the Movement Control Order (MCO) can be fined not more than RM1,000 or jailed for not more than six months or both, says a Federal Government Gazette.
The Gazette, dated March 18, titled “Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the infected local areas) Regulations 2020”, with the authority of the Health Minister Datuk Dr Adham Baba, also stated that if the offence was by a body or a company, the director, manager, secretary or anyone in such a capacity could be charged together or as a separate entity.
"If the offence is committed by an organisation, anyone who at the time of offence committed, is a director, manager, secretary or such an officer of the organisation who acted in whatever capacity or who was responsible for the management of the organisation or assisted the organisation, can be charged together or separately in the proceedings against the organisation," it stated.
It also said the defence must prove that the offence was done without his or her knowledge, and that all efforts and steps had been taken to avoid such an offence.
The Federal Gazette was made by the Attorney General's Chambers after the announcement of MCO from March 18 to March 31 by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to curb the Covid-19 pandemic. - Star
