PETALING JAYA: The Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) has quarantined the crew of its support ship, KD Mahawangsa, as one of the crew members is suspected of contracting Covid-19.
In a statement, TLDM said the crew member is suspected to have become infected after his wife came into close contact with a colleague suspected of having Covid-19.
“At this time, all the family members are classified as Persons Under Investigation (PUI) and are being quarantined by the health ministry.”
TLDM said, as a precautionary measure, it was now placing the entire crew of KD Mahawangsa under quarantine after receiving information on Covid-19 symptoms.
A similar measure, it said, was taken with the crew of the KD Lekiu frigate prior to the enforcement of the movement control order (MCO).
On March 4, the KD Lekiu had returned after escorting a Petronas Floating Liquified Natural Gas 2 ship from South Korea.
“However, to date, no TLDM personnel has tested positive for Covid-19.
“The public are advised against spreading fake news and to adhere to the MCO now being enforced.” - FMT
