Kuala Kurau assemblyperson Abdul Yunus Jamhari's leap from PKR to Bersatu is not surprising, Perak PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak said.
The aide to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim revealed that no further action would be taken on the matter and that he had personally expected Yunus' eventual departure from the party.
"(Yunus leaving PKR) is not a surprise for me. I have long expected it.
"What actually surprised me was the leap of (the former) Amanah youth chief. I did not see that coming, as well as that of the two state assemblypersons from DAP," Farhash told Malaysiakini when met after a closed-door function on 'Defend the People's Mandate' attended by Anwar and other PKR leaders.
"...within PKR, we know his (Yunus)'s direction. So I am not surprised at all," he added, alluding to former PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, who first led a group of 10 allied party leaders to leave and join Bersatu.
With the latest developments, Farhash said, no further action would be taken against Yunus (above), as he is no longer a PKR member.
"I (just) hope that the rakyat will punish him in the next election," he added.
Despite having expected the move by Yunus, Farhash said it was difficult for Perak PKR to act against him, given their already slim majority in the state assembly.
The Perak Harapan government collapsed yesterday, after the new Perikatan Nasional pact secured 32 seats through defections from PKR, Amanah and DAP.
In denying claims labelling him as a traitor, Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu from Bersatu said yesterday it was a natural move for the party to be in a new alliance with Umno and PAS, following the lead of their federal leaders.
"The new pact comprises four Bersatu state assemblypersons, namely myself as Chenderiang assemblyperson and Sungai Manik assemblyperson Zainol Fadzil, along with two others who joined the party, Kuala Kurau (Yunus) and Tualang Sekah assemblyperson Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi," said Faizal.
Aside from the two who joined Bersatu, three other representatives - Paul Yong (Tronoh), A Sivasubramaniam (Buntong) and Hasnul Zulkarnain Abd Munaim (Titi Serong) - left DAP and Amanah to declare themselves as Independents who supported the new Perikatan Nasional pact. - Mkini
