All cabinet ministers have been ordered to declare their assets to the MACC, said Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
He said among the first issues that he touched in the first cabinet meeting of the new Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration today was about the integrity of the country's leadership.
"I reminded all ministers about our commitment to fight and eradicate corruption. We will distribute integrity pledge forms for all government leaders (to sign), so as to ensure that the integrity of the government is at its highest.
"Secondly, all ministers have to declare their assets. Forms for asset declaration will be distributed (to cabinet members), and hopefully, they can be submitted to the MACC in a month time..." Muhyiddin told a press conference shortly after chairing the cabinet meeting at his office in Putrajaya.
All ministers who were officially appointed after being sworn in yesterday were also present at the conference.
Meanwhile, asked on Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Tiong King Sing (photo) rejecting his appointment as a deputy minister in the new cabinet, Muhyiddin said it was Tiong's choice and they accepted it.
"It is his choice. It is something that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has consented. We accept that.
"Of course we have to find another person to be nominated to the King as deputy minister of national unity."
However, according to Muhyiddin, Tiong had also expressed his intention to serve the nation in a different capacity.
They would meet tomorrow to discuss the matter, the premier added.
Yesterday, it was reported that Tiong, who is Bintulu MP, had rejected the post offered to him.
According to PDP secretary-general Nelson Balang Rining, Tiong made the decision as he found that a deputy minister post does not befit his position as president of the party and that he had been an MP for five terms. - Mkini
