Rafizi firm on 'no politics' stand after Perlis PKR Youth appeals for his return

Malaysiakini

PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli reiterated his stand that he is not interested in returning to active politics.
“I won't comment,” he responded to Malaysiakini even before the question was put to him.
When told that Perlis PKR Youth is appealing for him to return to help the party prepare for the next general election, Rafizi replied: “No comment. No matter what I say, it will be spun into a different kind of speculation.”
“But I have no plans to return to politics. I hope they understand,” he said, adding, on a lighter note, that his focus now is to adhere to a strict salad diet to shed weight.
Rafizi said he is also preoccupied with his current venture to develop an artificial intelligence platform to help job matching and improve the employment market.
“Unemployment remains a big issue and while running a technology startup does not sound important, I feel I can contribute to nation-building here too.
“There are many young and talented leaders around, they will heed the call for national service,” he added.
Rafizi did not contest in the last general election after the Shah Alam Sessions Court imposed a 30-month jail sentence on him for leaking confidential banking details belonging to the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) in March 2012.
After the election, he courted flak from various quarters for questioning former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad's cabinet appointments.
Rafizi, who was aligned to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, had also failed to unseat the then incumbent deputy president Azmin Ali in the party polls in 2018. However, he was later appointed as vice-president.
He has maintained a low-profile since then.
On Nov 15 last year, the Shah Alam High Court acquitted him.
Earlier today, Sinar Harian quoted Perlis PKR Youth as describing Rafizi as one of the architects who contributed to Pakatan Harapan's victory in the last national polls.
Apart from Rafizi, the wing also appealed to Anwar's daughter, former PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah (photo), to resume playing an active role as well.
Last November, Anwar said Rafizi and Nurul should be given space before returning to active politics.
"(Rafizi) helps me a lot and from what I understand, he, like Nurul Izzah, feels some disappointment. They are waiting for something more positive to happen. We will give them time.
"I agree (with you that they have expertise), but I think we should give them some space and not rush them into making a decision. Let them think and contemplate...
"They are different from those who seek position and wealth," he added. - Mkini
