CORONAVIRUS | At least three members of Damansara Utama Methodist Church (Dumc) in Petaling Jaya have been infected with Covid-19, according to a news report.
The three are said to be members of a Bible study group, including the wife of a prominent member of the church.
The Star Online, quoting a circular sent by the church to its members, said the church had alerted the study group in Kuala Lumpur.
They have gone into self-quarantine and have had their samples taken for Covid-19 testing.
"It (the circular) said the church, one of the largest in the country, is assisting the Health Ministry to trace those who might have come into contact with the trio recently," said the report.
While the news report carried the names of the three, Malaysiakini is withholding their identities due to privacy issues as the circular is only meant for members and not for the public.
According to the circular, Dumc pastor Daniel Ho also posted a heartfelt message calling on its members to pray for those in charge to make wise decisions and for everyone to cooperate with the authorities in curbing the spread of the virus.
"We are faced today with an unprecedented global challenge where not only many were infected by Covid-19, but also many have lost their loved ones and sadly, the numbers are still rising rapidly."
"Many healthcare professionals in Malaysia and around the world are under enormous strain to cope with their massive tasks and responsibilities. Their family members have sacrificed and paid a high price too.
"Some of them have sadly even paid with their lives in performing their duties on the frontline. Governments, businesses and so many sectors of society are battling with this catastrophic disaster.
"The human and economic costs are already mind-boggling and it scares (us) to think of the eventual outcome.
"We must continue to pray for good, and wise decisions and actions by those in charge and cooperation to be undertaken by all," he said, as quoted by the news portal.
As of yesterday, the Health Ministry recorded a total of 1,030 positive Covid-19 cases nationwide, with three deaths.
The government is trying to curb the spread of the virus by enforcing a movement control order, effective for 14 days from Wednesday (March 18). - Mkini
