RM10m each - PKR to sue 12 defected lawmakers soon: treasurer

Malaysiakini

PKR will take legal action soon against the 12 lawmakers who defected and demand that they pay the party RM10 million each, said treasurer Lee Chean Chung.
Speaking with Malaysiakini, he said PKR will base its lawsuit on a legal document signed by the lawmakers before they were fielded as candidates at the 2018 general election.
"We will send them the letter of demand next week. They will need to reply on how to pay the RM10 million," said Lee (photo), who is also Semambu state assemblyperson.
"Failing which, we will sue them. We will call for a press conference to announce it after sending out the letters," he said.
According to the legal document sighted by Malaysiakini, a lawmaker must pay the party RM10 million if he or she is terminated, defects to another party or leaves the party but remains as an independent.
The payment should be made within seven days after the lawmaker quits the party or expelled.
Lee said PKR is discussing with their lawyers to gather all the relevant information about the defected lawmakers.
The 12 lawmakers include nine parliamentarians and three state assemblypersons.
The state assemblypersons are Gombak Setia's Muhammad Hilman Idham from Selangor, Rembia's Muhammad Jailani Khamis from Malacca and Pemanis' Chong Fat Full from Johor.
The defected MPs are Azmin Ali (Gombak), Zuraida Kamaruddin (Ampang), Saifuddin Abdullah (Indera Mahkota), Kamaruddin Jaffar (Bandar Tun Razak), Mansor Othman (Nibong Tebal), Rashid Hasnon (Batu Pahat), Santhara Kumar (Segamat), Ali Biju (Saratok) and Willie Mongin (Puncak Borneo).
Lee said Azmin may need to pay RM20 million as he is holding Gombak parliamentary seat and Bukit Antarabangsa state seat.  - Mkini
