Sec-gen: MCA's focus on mending inappropriate policies, not cabinet posts

Malaysiakini

MCA's focus is on mending policies of the previous Pakatan Harapan government which it considers inappropriate and the issue of assuming cabinet positions in the Perikatan Nasional administration has not been discussed, according to secretary-general Chong Sin Woon.
As for cabinet positions, he said this is the discretion of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who in his maiden address on Monday promised to appoint clean ministers.
"We did not discuss the issue of cabinet appointments but we discussed what the government should do to rectify various policies that we feel are inappropriate.
"That is what we are concerned about, especially education and economy. These are the two issues that MCA will bring up with the new government.
“We did not discuss cabinet posts," he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.
Asked if MCA had been invited for meetings with the new government of the current ruling coalition regarding this matter, he said only party president Wee Ka Siong can answer questions related to the cabinet.
Chong was speaking to the media after officiating a fundraising campaign by an E-hailing and taxi drivers' rights organisation at the MCA headquarters.
Wee, who was spotted in the building this morning, was initially scheduled to officiate the event.
Previously, an Umno source told Malaysiakini that some are uncomfortable with the names speculated for the deputy prime minister and other senior cabinet positions.
In particular, it was claimed that there are reservations about former PKR deputy president Azmin Ali being earmarked for a top post.
It is understood that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah had instructed Muhyiddin to form an inclusive cabinet.
Sources have also said that MCA is debating on whether to be part of the new administration for fear of a backlash from the Chinese community who would perceive them as gaining power through the backdoor.
Meanwhile, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said his party would leave the formation of the cabinet entirely to Muhyiddin. - Mkini
