PUTRAJAYA: The Sungai Buloh Hospital will be developed into an infectious disease centre in light of the Covid-19 infections in the country.
Sungai Buloh Hospital infectious disease consultant Dr Suresh Kumar Chidambaram said this would ensure that facilities are in place to tackle any future outbreaks.
“We know most hospitals have a shortage of beds problem, but at Sungai Buloh Hospital, we have resolved the issue. There is no shortage of beds for Covid-19 patients undergoing treatment at the hospital,” he said at a session between the health ministry and members of the media, chaired by health director-general Noor Hisham Abdullah here yesterday.
He said 112 beds on the the fourth and fifth floors of the hospital have been set aside for Covid-19 patients while the third floor, which has a 14-bedder intensive care unit, has been dedicated to serious victims who require oxygen and intensive care.
Meanwhile, the departments located on the floors in question have been moved to nearby facilities to allow the hospital to focus on infectious diseases such as Covid-19.
Noor Hisham said Sungai Buloh Hospital would be the main health centre for treating Covid-19 patients while two other hospitals, Shah Alam Hospital and Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital, have been designated for the same purpose. - FMT
