CORONAVIRUS | Universiti Teknologi Mara Medical Centre (UiTMMC) in Sungai Buloh will start opening its laboratory to receive Covid-19 samples from Sungai Buloh Hospital (HSB) this March 30.
According to UiTMMC corporate communications office, this is a part of its initiatives involving HSB and several other agencies to help the government in facing the increase of Covid-19 cases in the country.
"Amidst this unprecedented health crisis, UiTMMC has come up with a few initiatives involving HSB and other agencies.
"Recognizing the power of togetherness within the health industry we are more than proud to serve," said the office in a post on its official Facebook page today.
Its spokesperson Dr Faizah Ali said the UiTMMC has also started Covid-19 management training and simulation for its doctors and nurses, with a plan to send them to assist at Health Ministry hospitals as reinforcements.
"We will train our doctors and staff especially those whom we are sending to HSB, on how to respond and follow the protocol of Covid-19 management.
"The agreement is so far mainly with HSB, to send several of our doctors and nurses," she said.
Faizah said UiTMMC is also opening its pharmacy for patients of HSB to acquire their medications, so as to help decongest the latter.
In terms of logistics, the university is ready to offer their support in acquiring equipment needed including forehead thermometers, quarantine tents, stand air-cond and stand fan.
Besides these, other initiatives by UiTMMC include providing its residential college for students to house Health Ministry staff deployed for Covid-19 duties, food drive for front liners by Zakat Selangor, and childcare services for its internal staff.
It was reported that the Health Ministry has decided to phase out other services in HSB that are not related to Covid-19 to make it an infectious disease management facility.  - Mkini
