The Perikatan Nasional government continued to see criticism from within its own ranks, this time from Umno vice president Khaled Nordin who claimed the new government has not walked the talk on its promise of integrity.
"There are among those (in government) who are embroiled in disgusting scandals but are protected and given positions in government.
"This goes against the promise that the government will be clean and with integrity," he said in a statement.
Khaled (photo) did not name who he was referring to.
He was defending Umno's chorus of criticism against the new government, which the party is part of.
This is after former Chief Justice Abdul Hamid Mohamad slammed Umno leaders for complaining about the new government and accused them of prioritising party interests over country, race and religion.
Some Umno leaders are unhappy that the party is under-represented in the Bersatu-dominated government despite having the most MPs in Perikatan Nasional.
"When 10 ministers (and deputy ministers) come from (Gombak MP) Azmin Ali's bloc, which did not respect the people's mandate and sold their status as MP for positions (in government), is that moral in Hamid's eyes?" he said.
Likewise, he said some Bersatu leaders appointed as ministers were originally MPs who defected from Umno.
The new Perikatan Nasional cabinet was sworn in on Tuesday.
The assembling of the new cabinet came two weeks after the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government.
Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin had taken his party out of Harapan and formed the new government in cooperation with PKR defectors, BN, PAS, GPS and other minor parties.
Azmin was instrumental to the creation of the new government as his bloc contributed 10 MPs, including himself. The had all defected on PKR.
Muhyiddin was sworn in as the new prime minister on March 1.
This came amid a split to Bersatu chairperson and former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad. - Mkini
