Wife of DAP's Gadek rep refutes hubby's reported defection

The Gadek assemblyperson's wife has refuted a news report which suggested that her husband - G Saminathan - will leave DAP for Perikatan Nasional.

Taking to Facebook, V Umah Devi said that the rumour of the impending defection, reported by The Star, was "fake news".

"I urge reporters not to spread fake news," said Umah Devi. "As a wife, I know him. Whatever the circumstances, he will stick to his principles."

She said Saminathan (above) was loyal to his party despite having been jailed for four months.

Saminathan was detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 for alleged links with the Liberal Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

The charges against him were dropped last month.

Malaysiakini's attempts to contact Saminathan were not successful.

According to The Star, Saminathan had left all Pakatan Harapan instant messaging groups, which had raised suspicion that he would defect.

The Harapan government collapsed late last month. A new government comprising of Umno and Bersatu lawmakers then formed the Malacca state government.

They were supported by a lawmaker from DAP and another from PKR. Both were eventually sacked from their respective parties. - Mkini
