Zahid met Muhyiddin briefly, but aide says it was an unofficial meeting

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pix) did meet briefly with Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin before the Prime Minister left for Muar, says an aide.

The Umno president's special officer, Jailani Harun, confirmed there was an unofficial meeting between the two leaders but defended a statement from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) which said there were no meetings with any political leaders.

"Referring to some negative remarks on social media, let me clarify that there was a brief unofficial meeting between Zahid and Muhyiddin (as) the Prime Minister had to rush back to Muar for personal reasons.

"The PMO media unit was right to issue a statement on this matter that no official meeting had taken place.

"I hope this explanation is sufficient to clear the air," he said in a Facebook post on Monday (March 2).

Ahmad Zahid was supposed to be at the KL High Court for his corruption trial on Monday but it had been postponed allegedly due to a meeting with Muhyiddin supposedly to discuss the new Cabinet line-up.

He later said he had no intention of having any of his charges dropped and wants his day in court to prove his innocence.

Ahmad Zahid is facing 47 charges of criminal breach of trust, bribery and money laundering, involving tens of millions of ringgit belonging to Yayasan Akalbudi. - Star
