Despite police probe, Adam Adli claims Saturday's rally still on

Despite being investigated by the police, activist Adam Adli stressed that the #TangkapAzamBaki rally will continue as planned this Saturday (Jan 22).

The PKR member said he cooperated with the police who asked questions related to the rally set to take place in front of the Sogo building in Kuala Lumpur.

"This (the rally) is not a matter of attacking (MACC chief commissioner) Azam Baki but raising awareness upon an institution that is expected to protect, prevent and also eradicate corruption in this country as well as corruption in any form.

“Its leader must have integrity," he said in front of the Dang Wangi police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.

Adam was questioned for approximately 20 minutes at the station and was accompanied by his lawyer Syahredzan Johan.

According to Syahredzan, investigations were carried out under Section 504 Penal Code (intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace) and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (improper use of network facilities or network service etc).

“I believe it is about the spreading (of information) done online. Adam has given cooperation by answering (the police’s) questions but surely the answers to those questions cannot be revealed.

“A lot of the questions were about the planning of the demonstration that will be happening this Saturday," he said.

The lawyer said being called for questioning was an act often seen when there are planned demonstrations.

“Those who are seen as organisers or spreaders of information will surely be called,” he added.

Syahredzan said they were not informed in detail of the alleged information disseminated by Adam, but the questions referred to the poster of Saturday’s rally.

Syahredzan and Adam said despite the investigation, no one should be afraid or intimidated to attend the demonstration if they believe in the issues raised by it.

At the same time, Adam assured that the rally will take place at 11am on Saturday and does not intend to disturb the peace of any party.

“This is the right of Malaysians to express their views and gather (as a result of it),” he added. - Mkini
