KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic in the nation's highways, expressways and trunk roads are smooth albeit slow-moving.
This was especially so on several routes heading out of Kuala Lumpur as the federal capital empties ahead of the Chinese New Year, next week.
Traffic along the East Coast Expressway (LPT) highways is reportedly smooth in both directions, with slow traffic from KM 4.2KM to KM32.9 heading towards the Genting Sempah Tunnel in the east, as of noon today.
It was made to understand that the slow-moving traffic was due to an increase in the numbers of vehicles on the highway.
Over at the North-South Expressway, motorists are facing crawling traffic from Slim River heading towards Sungkai, as of 12.09 pm today.
Another slow-moving traffic along the expressway is between Bidor to the Tapah RnR Tapah stretches up to KM9.3KM after Tapah on the heading towards Gua Tempurung Side Stop.
Meanwhile, it was reported earlier today that an accident had occurred at KM257.9 North from Senawang heading towards Port Dickson at8.21am today.
The accident caused the left lane of the highway to be closed temporarily, leading to traffic backing up. After the accident was cleared, the left lane was then opened around 9.35 am
According to the highway concessionaire PLUS through its Twitter page (@plustrafik), the slow-moving traffic which began at around 9 am this morning, was due to the increased number of vehicles on the expressway.
PLUS Malaysia Berhad chairman Datuk Mohamad Nasir Ab Latif had said that the number of vehicles on PLUS highways is expected to increase to 1.6 million daily during Chinese New Year celebrations.
He said a vehicle volume is expected to increase between Jan 28 and 29 ad well as from Feb 2 to 5.
