JASIN: A senior citizen was awakened from his sleep when his mattress was almost immersed under water in a flooding incident in Parit Penghulu Benteng, Sungai Rambai here.
Osman Samad, 71, said the family had just finished tidying up and cleaning the house after the floodwaters receded completely three days ago, and now they have to face the same situation after it rained heavily since Friday resulting in a river nearby overflowing its banks.
Osman said he and his wife had previously stayed at their son's house and had just slept through the night at his house and did not expect a repeat of the floods to be worse than what happened two weeks ago.
"It was at about 5am when I saw that my house was flooded. And I only realised it after I moved my leg and saw that the house was flooded. Floodwater rose quickly but thank God my family is safe.
"This time, the water rose about one meter high compared to last week when floodwaters only reached the knee.
"We are still tired from cleaning the house when it was flooded the first time and now we have to do it all over again," he said when met by Bernama at the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Parit Penghulu flood relief centre (PPS) here today.
Osman said ever since staying at the house for the past 50 years, he had to deal with floods almost 80 times.
He also said he was getting used to the situation and was feeling hapless.
"My house is located in a low-lying area compared to other areas there and it is near a river. So each time it rains, I expect this to happen. All I can do is save all my important documents first.
"I don't have another house or land to build another house. I accept this as my fate and accept this situation as a test from God," he said. -- BERNAMA
