Harapan: Call interim teachers for permanent placement interviews

The Pakatan Harapan Education Committee has urged the Education Ministry to call on interim teachers for their Education Services Commission (SPP) interviews for a permanent position.

This comes after the committee learnt that some interim teachers - who had been appointed several years prior - had yet to be called for their interviews, despite nearing the end of their contracts.

“The Harapan Education Committee was informed that in the duration of an interim teacher’s service, the SPP will call on them to be interviewed in order for them to be absorbed following the end of their contracts.

“However, despite complaints from interim teachers, there are still many who have not been called by the commission.

“Even the one-off recruitment announced by the senior education minister last year to boost the insufficient number of teachers also did not involve interim teachers," it said in a statement today.

“The Harapan Education Committee is of the view that the absorption of interim teachers should be given priority - in addition to Bachelor of Education graduates - in view that interim teachers possess working experience in schools and are already proficient with the situation at their schools,” it added.

Harapan's education wing is chaired by Simpang Renggam MP Maszlee Malik, who is also a former education minister.

Its members comprise Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (PKR-Setiawangsa), Hasan Bahrom (Amanah-Tampin), Teo Nie Ching (DAP-Kulai), Natrah Ismail (PKR-Sekijang), Steven Sim (DAP-Bukit Mertajam), Rusnah Aluai (PKR-Tangga Batu) and Sivakumar Varatharaju Naidu (DAP-Batu Gajah).

Harapan further said that not calling interim teachers for their SPP interviews is mistreatment of these teachers, whose offer letters had stated that they would be called to be absorbed as permanent teachers.

“The Harapan Education Committee urges the Education Ministry and the SPP to immediately call them for an interview,” it added. - Mkini
