Johor Muda: Polls negotiations with Harapan going well

The discussions between the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) and Pakatan Harapan to work together in the coming Johor state election are going well, Johor Muda said.

Johor Muda chief Mohd Azrol Ab Rahani (above) told Malaysiakini that the party is in a preliminary negotiation with Pakatan Harapan now and identifying the seats that Muda aims to contest.

“Our (party’s) central political bureau is still discussing which constituency we will contest.

“So far we haven’t come to a decision yet on whether we are confirmed to work with Pakatan Harapan or vice versa.

“It's still in negotiations and the negotiations are in good condition,” Azrol said.

Asked which logo Muda would prefer to use if the cooperation deal is reached, Azrol said Muda is more keen to use its own logo for its very first election.

“For now, we haven’t made the final decision on whether we will partner with Pakatan Harapan, or use the Harapan logo or our own logo.

“But the purpose of Muda (to contest) is to highlight the interests of the youth at the state level… we’re more keen to introduce our logo to the people.

Currently, the three parties within Pakatan Harapan, too, have not yet reached a consensus on the logo issue for the Johor polls.

PKR has insisted on using its own logo while DAP and Amanah want to use Harapan's logo. Yesterday, Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim said the final decision would be made by the coalition in two days.

Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar last Saturday (Jan 22) consented to incumbent Menteri Besar Hasni Mohammad's request to dissolve the state assembly, paving the way for fresh polls which must be called within 60 days.

The Election Commission (EC) will announce the election date on Feb 9. - Mkini
