PKR has insisted on using its logo for the upcoming Johor state election while DAP and Amanah want to use Pakatan Harapan's logo, said Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim.
A final decision will be made by the coalition in two days, he told the media after chairing a two-hour Harapan presidential council meeting at PKR's headquarters in Petaling Jaya, Selangor today.
"We voiced (in the meeting) that the party grassroots strongly demand that the PKR logo be used (in the Johor polls) based on our experience in the Malacca state election," he said.
However, he said the PKR logo would only be for seats contested by PKR candidates.
"Our friends feel the Harapan logo is more appropriate. So, we will finalise in two days," Anwar said.
Previously, a Harapan leader had expressed hope that the logo issue could be finalised at today's meeting.
"Hopefully, it can be settled today," said the leader from Johor Harapan.
Following Harapan's poor performance in the Malacca polls last November, in which it used the coalition's unified logo, PKR proposed that its coalition allies use PKR's logo in future elections.
PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil said the coalition's leadership council today went over the challenges faced during the Malacca polls.
Among them were the challenges of introducing new candidates and the relatively new Harapan logo under restrictive campaigning rules.
Harapan used PKR's logo in Peninsular Malaysia during the 2018 general election as the coalition could not be registered at the time.
However, it used the Harapan logo in subsequent by-elections and the Malacca polls after being formally registered as a coalition after the 2018 general election.
After the Malacca polls, DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke suggested that Harapan parties revert to using their own respective logos, similar to the 2008 and 2013 general elections.
BN secured a two-thirds majority in the Nov 20 Malacca polls, winning 21 out of 28 seats while Perikatan Nasional (PN) took two.
DAP and Amanah only retained half of their seats, down from eight to four and two to one respectively. PKR, which had three seats previously, was wiped out.
Harapan parties resorted to using their own logos in the Sarawak polls, which saw only two out of 82 state seats won by DAP while PKR and Amanah did not win any of the seats they contested. - Mkini
