Political party Malaysia Makkal Sakthi Party (MMSP) aims to contest under the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition in the forthcoming 15th general election (GE15), according to its president RS Thanenthiran.
“As you know, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as the BN chairperson has promised our party seats (in the upcoming elections).
“We came to a resolution in our Annual General Meeting and have requested (to contest) for four parliamentary seats and five state assembly seats,” he said at a press conference at the World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur today.
Earlier reports claimed that the party aimed to contest in seven state assembly seats.
However, Thanenthiran clarified that it would not affect the existing seats of other component parties contesting under the BN coalition.
Other components under BN include Umno, MCA, MIC and PBRS.
Meanwhile, Thanenthiran said MMSP supported deputy president Mohamad Hasan’s call to hold GE15 in the near future.
“MMSP supports Mohamad Hasan’s call to hold GE15 immediately due to unforeseen and unstable political conditions that have threatened the state of our country,” he said.
In September, Zahid said that BN may field candidates from MMSP — calling them an asset — as they had been supportive of the coalition for years.
The Indian race-based party has allegedly been waiting 13 years for the opportunity to contest under the BN flag.
Last week, MMSP hosted an event supporting former prime minister Najib Razak.
Many ridiculed the tagline of the event, — “Bossku, Our National Pride” — criticising the party for supporting Najib. - Mkini
