Met Dept issues dangerous weather alert for Johor, parts of Pahang

The Meteorological Department has issued a dangerous weather warning for Johor and parts of Pahang, predicting ongoing heavy rain of more than 150mm in 24 hours.

An ongoing heavy rain alert also means predicted continuous rainfall for over six hours and a minimum 60mm rain in the period.

The red alert issued at 6.20pm today covers the entire state of Johor, as well as Kuantan, Bera, Pekan and Rompin in Pahang.

Bentong and Mentakab have been among areas worst hit by floods in Pahang so far, while almost 2,000 victims were evacuated from Segamat, Johor, as water levels continue to rise.

In Pahang, the Meteorological Department also placed Jerantut, Bentong, Temerloh and Maran under an orange alert or predicted rainfall of more than 60mm in six hours.

A similar warning is issued for parts of Sabah in Sandakan Telupid, Beluran and Kudat, as well as Negeri Sembilan and Malacca.

In Kelantan, storm warnings are still being issued for the next six hours even with the official closure of its last temporary flood shelter earlier today.

Other East Coast states under yellow alert include Terengganu and Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub), as well as parts of Sabah (Tuaran, Ranau, Kota Belud, Sandakan).

It also predicted upcoming storms within the next six hours in Perak (Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang, Muallim), Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. - FMT
