KOTA BHARU: More than four million youths aged 18 and above have been automatically registered as voters as of Jan 16, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.
He said the government valued youths, who could now vote following amendments to the Federal Constitution in 2019.
“I hope youth bodies such as the Malaysian Association of Youth Clubs (MAYC) will create awareness among the young on the importance of this democratic process.”
The prime minister said this in his speech at a dinner at MAYC’s 60th annual general meeting last night.
Also present were Kelantan menteri besar Ahmad Yakob and MAYC president Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim.
Ismail said youth bodies should continue to play their role as catalysts to develop youths.
The government, he said, wants more young people to be proactive and give constructive views.
“Youth bodies should not be used as a political platform or for personal gain.” - FMT
