Kelantan PAS has accepted and respects the state Umno’s decision to sever ties between the two parties.
The state’s PAS commissioner Ahmad Yakob said even though his side had asked for the decision to be postponed till the 15th General Election (GE15), the decision made was an internal matter for Kelantan Umno.
“We cannot do anything because that is Umno’s internal (matters). We had a discussion last night with Kelantan Umno’s political bureau which was very friendly and we understand Umno’s wish to sever ties because they cannot accept Bersatu.
“We had asked for this matter not to be decided now, seeing as the current situation is very good where the community and our grassroots’ relationship with Umno are doing well.
“We can’t do anything because that is Umno’s stand. Our stand is that we are still together within Muafakat Nasional (MN), but we respect Umno’s viewpoint,” Ahmad Yakub said.
Ahmad Yakub, who is also the Kelantan Menteri Besar, said this in a press conference after officiating the launch of the celebration for Sultan Ismail Petra International Islamic College (Kias) two-decade anniversary since its formation in Kota Bharu today.
It was reported yesterday that Kelantan Umno had decided to sever ties with Kelantan PAS.
Kelantan Umno chief Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub said the decision was made as the state PAS chapter was still working with Bersatu, a splinter party from Umno which they cannot accept.
Despite that, Ahmad Yakub said he hopes the good relationship between PAS and Umno can continue, even in GE15.
“We hope there is still space for us to cooperate in GE15 because our wish is to avoid three-cornered fights.
“We accept Umno’s decision but we will continue our efforts for the unity of Malay-Muslims,” he said. - Mkini
