Pasir Bedamar rep denies taking illicit substances, lodges report

Following his arrest and subsequent release, Pasir Bedamar assemblyperson Terence Naidu has come forward to deny consuming any illicit substances.

He has since lodged a police report calling for an investigation into how his urine test returned positive for drugs.

The DAP lawmaker provided his version of events in a long statement today.

“I was invited to meet friends (who as a matter of fact are also clients) for a Chinese New Year dinner meet up in Penang.

“Upon reaching Prai, I was taken to the location of my arrest. I was hesitant to enter the premises at first but eventually did so.

“I did not take any illegal substance. I was shocked when I was told my urine tested positive as I don’t even smoke.

“I was poured an unusual drink, which I didn’t consume after tasting. I subsequently found out the following day that while I was in the toilet, someone also had come to my table and topped up my drinking glass,” he explained.

Terence was arrested on Jan 13 after police raided a nightclub in Perai, Bukit Mertajam.

Police later detained him after his urine tested positive for an unspecified drug. He was released yesterday.

‘Exposed to suspicious elements’

Terence said he lodged a police report after he was released from police custody.

“As a result of this incident, I have on Jan 14 - immediately upon being released - made a police report stating I was exposed to suspicious elements and (I named) an eye witness to this act.

“The eye witness has given a police statement confirming this incident.

“I have asked the police to investigate the above and the public to assess my above statement (that was) given to the police and come to their own conclusion,” he said.

Willing to be suspended

Earlier today, Perak DAP chairperson Nga Kor Ming urged Terence to explain himself to the party.

In response, the two-term assemblyperson said he had done so and was willing to be suspended over the incident.

“I shall carry out my duties to my electorate and will stand by my position that drugs have and will always be a social issue while continuing the fight against this [...]

“As a responsible assemblyperson elected under my party banner, I also stand ready to protect it from harm and will readily submit myself to be suspended so as not to drag my party into this case,” he said.

Terence further apologised to his supporters and electorate for putting himself in a position where he could be “compromised”.  - Mkini
