PETALING JAYA: Seven youth wing leaders from Pakatan Harapan (PH) are among 12 people who will be questioned by the police tomorrow about a ceramah on Friday ahead of yesterday’s #TangkapAzamBaki rally.
Four of the seven are from Amanah Youth. They are Amanah Youth leader Mohd Hasbie Muda, his deputy Zubair Rahim; strategy director Asmaaliff Abdul Adam, and Amanah Youth committee member Abbas Azmi.
The others from PH are Pasir Pinji assemblyman and DAP Youth chief Howard Lee, PKR Youth secretary Ahmad Syukri Abd Razab and PKR member and activist Adam Adli Abdul Halim.
Muda vice-president Dr Thanussha Francis Xavier is also among the 12, as are Jalinan Nusantara Malaysia chairman Mohd Azam Mektar, International Islamic University Malaysia lecturer Abu Hafiz Salleh Hudin, lawyer Bakri Omar and social media activist Amira Aisha.
Their lawyer, Kamil Munim, said it was not known yet which law will be applied to the investigation. “It’s related to the event on Friday, but I don’t know what specific sections the investigations will be conducted under. I was there on Friday, and honestly, it was a peaceful meeting.”
The ceremah on Friday was raided by the police and a few arrests were made, according to rally organisers. Kamil said he expects the police to call in more people for questioning.
The rally yesterday had drawn the participation of 35 societies and six political parties, namely PKR, DAP, Amanah, Pejuang, Muda and Warisan.
Hundreds of protesters had gathered at the Bangsar LRT station to demand the arrest of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Azam Baki, who is mired in controversy over the purchase of shares in public-listed companies.
The protest organisers also wanted legal action to be taken against Azam and the MACC to be placed under Parliament’s purview. - FMT
