PM: 28,287 flood victims have received cash aid

As of noon today, a total of 28,287 flood victims have received their Bantuan Wang Ihsan (BWI) from Putrajaya, said Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said those who have yet to receive the funds should contact their respective district officers.

Heads of households in flood-hit areas are eligible to receive RM1,000 in cash. The family of flood victims who die because of the floods will receive RM10,000.

According to the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), the current government policy allowed flood victims to be eligible for cash aid each time flood strikes.

The government is also granting a 100 percent rebate on electricity tariff for flood victims for their December bill.

Currently, flooding has occurred in southern Peninsular Malaysia, many parts of the east coast and several parts of Sabah.

Three weeks ago, several parts of the Klang Valley and Pahang were severely flooded. At the time, flood victims complained that the government's response to the floods was very slow. - Mkini
