KUALA LUMPUR: A shouting match erupted in the Dewan Rakyat this evening as Tajuddin Abdul Rahman (BN-Pasir Salak) defended special functions minister Abdul Latiff Ahmad from being “bullied” by opposition MPs.
The issue started when several opposition MPs had interjected Latiff’s speech to ask for more details on “bipartisan proposals” to manage disasters better in the future, leaving the minister visibly exasperated.
Tajuddin eventually rose to interject and said it was “not fair” to the minister, accusing the opposition MPs of “bullying the minister”.
“He’s trying to answer everything. He’s trying to answer but you people are trying to bully him. It’s not fair. Come on man. What is this,” he said angrily, cutting off Hannah Yeoh (PH-Segambut).
“When people want to answer, you say he doesn’t. You say this government isn’t good or smart, but when you were the government, were you smart?”
Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Rashid Hasnon turned off the MPs’ microphones several times.
Tajuddin continued his tirade against the MPs, at one point training his guns on Khalid Samad (PH-Shah Alam) and asking the Amanah man what he had accomplished in his tenure as federal territories minister.
“I know all of you, I know your standard, your quality,” he said, before Rashid muted MPs’ microphones again and asked everyone but Latiff to sit down.
Khalid then took a dig at Tajuddin by referring to him as the future ambassador of Malaysia to Indonesia. He said this in reference to reports that the Umno man was to be named the country’s new ambassador to Indonesia.
This prompted Tajuddin to shout, “Shut up, you shut up. Shah Alam, shut up,” before Rashid muted all microphones again. - FMT
