SUPP disciplinary committee to probe Kuching chief's election revolt - Dr Sim

The Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) has referred its Kuching branch chairperson Lily Yong Lee Lee to the party's disciplinary committee over her move to dissolve the branch's election machinery for Padungan in the run-up to the state election on Dec 18 last year.

On Dec 13, Yong announced the branch would dissolve its election machinery in protest over the candidacy of Wee Hong Seng.

While GPS scored a landslide win in bagging 76 out of 82 seats, Wee was one of the six losers. DAP's Chong Chieng Jen won the Padungan seat with a 1,198-vote majority.

According to the Borneo Post, SUPP president Dr Sim Kui Hian told a press conference that the disciplinary committee would hear the case and then present its findings to the party's central working committee.

"Due process must go on; otherwise, people will say we are a kangaroo court. If we decide here, then they say we are a kangaroo court with no investigation," he said.

No time frame has been set for the disciplinary committee to look into the matter.

It was reported that the SUPP Kuching branch had earlier informed its members that an extraordinary general meeting would be called on Jan 23 to address the matter.
