Teen in 'corpse bathing' incident to seek review of sentence

A teenager who was sentenced to jail for stealing from a mosque will seek a review of his sentence.

According to the Muslim Lawyers Association (PPMM), the review proceedings will take place at the Shah Alam High Court on Monday (Jan 17).

Daniel Iskandar, 19, was sentenced to 10 days in jail and fined RM4,000 after pleading guilty on Thursday.

He was charged with attempting to steal a donation box from the Al Islahiah Mosque in Rawang, Selangor, on Jan 8.

His lawyer, Azman Abdullah, in pleading for leniency, told the court that Daniel stole in order to buy medicine for his ailing grandfather.

Following this, video clips surfaced depicting Daniel being pinned down to a mortuary washing table and having the bathing ritual performed on him.

PPMM urged the public to stop speculating on the incident and allow the review proceedings to proceed unimpeded.

"PPMM, through Messrs Hariz Syakinah & Co, will be providing a full statement after the proceeding is completed," the lawyer said. - Mkini
