PETALING JAYA: The health ministry reported 26,832 Covid-19 cases yesterday.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 133 of the new cases, or 0.5%, were in Categories 3, 4 or 5 at the time of diagnosis. The total number of infections now stands at 3,221,680.
In a statement, Noor Hisham also said there were 1,438 new hospital admissions.
He said 18,459 patients had recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,937,655.
There were also 15 clusters reported yesterday.
Yesterday’s cases comprised 26,764 local infections, involving 26,054 Malaysians and 710 foreigners, and 68 imported ones.
Of these, 261 were being treated in intensive care units (ICU), with 98 Covid-19 positive and 163 suspected of being infected. They included 139 requiring respiratory assistance, with 61 positive and the remaining suspected of being infected.
As of yesterday, 7,397 non-critical Covid-19 beds in hospitals and low-risk treatment centres were being utilised by patients, or 63% of the total capacity.
Covid-19 ICUs were at 30% of their total capacity of 832 beds.
Of the 1,438 patients hospitalised yesterday, 953 were in Category 1 and 2 while 485 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.
Malaysia’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought or R0) stood at 1.21.
Noor Hisham said usage of ICU beds in two regions has exceeded 50% capacity, namely in Johor (70%) and Kuala Lumpur (65%).
Meanwhile, the use of normal Covid-19 beds has exceeded 50% capacity in Selangor (104%), Perlis (101%), Kelantan (96%), Perak (91%), Putrajaya (82%), Johor (82%), Sabah (79%) and Kuala Lumpur (77%). - FMT
